Time to try something new, we are heading south to play in a tournnament league. Last year they were ranked 2nd in their division being short one game from first... the head coach use to play in net and they have goalie training, they bring in an ex NHL goalie for that... so reseach done. I made a few teams for the 25/26 season but this one seems to be the one I'll sign with for a number of reasons. Wish me luck and follow along as we play across Ontario and N.Y. State.
2025 Timminss/Porcupine Soccer
Team Green - CURRENT #34
This summer I'm playing on 2 soccer teams. This one looks like a winner. Time will tell.
2025 Kirkland Lake Soccer
Team Yellow - CURRENT #82
So far these teams look fairly even, wish me luck.
2024/25 Was a Year of many teams
our Matheson Men's Hockey... (Beer League has no #s)
A special Thanks to the guys in town here that let me play hockey with them. 2 differnet groups in town both use the services of GoaliePow to fill the net, there are no set teams, we work around other people work schedules but it's always fun to get out on the ice and play with the guys. This is my second full time year with them, I started at 12 and found it challenging. Now, they find me challenging... I see it when they finally score on me, even the best players out there are happy to get one past me now.
2025 Niagara Spring Hockey Challenge
TDi #29
So we get a call about another locally based team that the Jr A Coach is running, more results of the showing at the Scottie Devo Event... They could use a goalie for a tournament/showcase in Niagara Falls... The team was comprised of good players from Cochrane down to Timiskiming. I think the goal was to take kids from up north and give them an idea of how they stack up if they went south, LOL... I already knew where that was going. But hockey is hockey and who doesn't want more hockey. We signedd on and head south. Game one comes around and we meets the team and coaches for the first time. One coach said, "I don't know if you remember me but I was on the team you beat out going into the finals in the S&D Tournament, I tried my best to score on you but you weren't letting anything by you... can we count on you for more play like that today?" I mean you have to say yes even know you are being lead to slaughter right? LOL Niagra Falls, Slowly I turned, step by step, inch by inch... All in all I managed a game MVP, the team took home a Bronze and I ended up with a 0.94 %sa and 3 gaa, which wasn't too bad, the teams downfall was our lack of goals and retaining players, there were some ejections, one for nothing more than one of our players asking what his penalty was for, frankly no one else knew what it was for either so some you just aren't ment to win, the Refs will let you know which those are.
2025 Franco Hockey
L'Alliance Varsity Team #1
Hockey almost didn't happen for the school this year, normally they share a bus with another school up here and the other school didn't consider it worth their time to head south to be beat on again this season. After all was sorted out they put their plans into action... the teams secret weapon this season was the 9th grader they put in net. What? Yup, that was it, just go out there and try not getting scored on. I have a lot of teams that work like that. So we arrived in Toronto a little cocky, hit the ice and played a perfect game, 15 points... don't even ask how that scoring works, you have to win each period and stay out of the penalty box and some other stuff... we did it all and landed in first place... unfortunately we might have used up all our energy and mojo there. We started to slip in the standings after that game, no ones fault but our own, it was more of a fun tournament, no strick rules on what we ate, no restrictions on swimming, we went to the ball game and watched the bluejays play, stayed up late, ah... good times... the energy level on the team dropped like a rock, so yes now I know these kind of things do make a difference. Honestly I'm not sure anyone expected us to even win that first game. Who knew? LOL
2025 Cochrane 3x3 Spring Classic Hockey Tournament
FAFO (Fuck Around & Find Out) #1
Back in the Days I used to play hockey tournaments in Cochrane, lots of them, the Jr A Coach/Owner would hold these tournaments everyone could enter as a single player... I'd always get a call from him a few days before the event and he would ask me to play for at least 2 teams in my division and 1 team up an age group. Good times... After he moved on, tournaments were left to the minor hockey association and the town to run... there were the covid years and then new rules came into play that you were only allowed to have 2 rep players AA or higher on each team and you couldn't just enter yourself, you needed to enter as a team. So people stacked team, ruined things, they would use up the Rep positions with shooters and then put HL kids in net, some of which they had to play up a level because it's hard to find a HL goalie that wants 70MPH puck busting through their plasic buckets. As it was I stopped looking to play there, sat back and boggeled at the scores... they looked more like basketball game scores. This year I got a call from one of the coaches from I.F. (the place the Scottie & Devo Tournament is held) and they were looking for a goalie... actually he was a gaolie and was thinking the same thing we were, if they can't score, we really don't need a lot of good shots on net. The logic was sound... can't say we were ever in any jepordy of losing any of those games. At one point near the end of the game we called a time out to calculate how many goals I had to let in to force a shootout. I needed to let in 2... so be it. Letting in the 2 goals forced us into a shootout and as agreed, they let me take the first shot on net... full goalie gear looking for the elusive goalie goal... CLOSE! But no... I went on to make all my saves and we won another... in the end we easily took home the cup, another Championship under the belt this season.
2025 Scottie & Devo Hockey Tournament
Abitibi River Rats #1
This was the ultimate test of goalie skills and everyone was watching, the coach of the team I was going to try out for this year was over on left wing, the owner of the Jr A team had his kid in net at the far end of the rink (kid=30ish), a few of the older kids from the AAA team, one of the Jr A coaches, a few other coaches from minor hockey, all the guys from my Matheson Hockey Group, a bunch of ex OHL players from Ottawa, I mean these weren't just a bunch of old dude that had one too many beers, some of these guys stayed sober for this just to kick my ass. I have to note here that the past 2 years the people who ran the event wouldn't let me play because I was too young... should have taken me then when these old guys had a chance to score on me. LOL Dad tells me everyone in the arena was talking about me, thanks, no presure. Some of my friends quit chearing for their dad's team and started chearing for me, by the end I had a fan group going on behind my net. 7 games was more than I got last year on my AA team playing only 6 regular season games. Record for the weekend: 7 games played / 6 wins / 1 OTL / 3x Game MVP/ 1 Shutout / Over 200 SOG / 0.925 %SA / 2.14 GAA -- (14 years old playing in an adult tournament) -- I have to say I was mad with the bad call leading to the short handed loss in overtime in the finals round. 2nd place isn't bad, but it shouldn't have ended like that. Next year, no more Mr. Nice Guy.
2025 Waterloo Winterfest
West Ferris U19B Ringette #1
Filling in for the u19 goalie out for the season. Unfortunately some narrow minded pencil pushers at Ringette Ontario cut Lawson off at one tournament with the team. Even though his team (I.F.) never signed up for a league it still counts as his primary team and although other players are allowed to play up on more than one team, Lawson has been confined to the sign team that's not playing regular season games. So their reasoning for limiting his play with the W.Ferris team is that he's played too many games and he needs to give others the oppertunity to fill in... blah blah blah... so we have a goalie that's on a team not in a league, not playing regular season games, AND we have a team near by that needs a goalie because their regular goalie it out for the season... I mean it's not because he's a boy or anything like that... ANYWAY, Lawson played with the girls from West Ferris and helped them bring home a Championship from the Waterloo Winterfest Tournament. For many of these players it was their last year in ringette as they are moving on to university, or just out of the u19 age group. Nice to see them leave with a little bling. Fun to help them out, but no way where the ringette nazis at Ringette Ontario going to let it happen again. Yet another organization that couldn't care less about the individual players, just about covering their own asses and keeping people from filing complaints.
2024 West Ferris Classic 3v3
Ringmasters #1
We kind of agreed to this one at the last minute, we were coming through North Bay on the way home from another Hockey Tournament when we got the call for a sub in one of the preseason Tournaments... walking in we realize that the better part of the AA team is there and they had our number. It didn't take long to finish up the weekend and add another u16 Championship medal to the rack.
2024/25
Iroquois Falls Stingers U18A #?
So Lawson wants to play with his friends but we have pending issues with Timmins Minor Hockey Association, charges filed against them with SafeSports, they coutered with a block on Lawson's HCR which needs to be removed before he can play hockey with HC again. At this point everything is up in the air and in the appeals process. Waiting for legal battles in court, and it's becoming obvious they don't give a rats ass about the kid, but if they can make it so they don't have to play their teams against him, all the better. Lawson trys out for the I.F.Stingers and although he's better than the u18a goalies trying out he is once again faced with an organization that needs him for their u15 team and because he's younger the spot on the u18 team is give to the past u18 goalie and he is offered a AP spot on the team so he can play for the u15 team and then play for the Stinger wwhen they need him and after the u15 season is over. Damn this sounds familiar. Trying out for the u15AAA is pointless as they are poised to be the worst team in Canada and still have no goalie coach. Hockey up north is a lot like pissing into a fan. Edit: HC does nothing to rectify the problem, do nothing about the harassment or assult, Lawson is still banned from the HCR and didn't get to play on either of these teams all season. Many other oppertunities were missed keeping dates clear that these teams needed him but they all came and when with no change in the HRC stats even though many people said that they were trying to fix things for us... in the end, no one did anything to help. Why, frankly... they don't give a rats ass about the kids, just making money and saving their own ass.
2023 to 2025
Georgian Bay Owls U13-U15 A/AA Summer Hockey #1
I've spent 3 years with the GBO organization, great people, fun hockey. I started in their 2nd year and was able to help them win the organizations first Championship. Our first year was a little rough, our team was mostly made out of A and B rep players that were mostly local to Wasaga Beach and the surounding area. We frequently played in the CCT tournaments in the A/AA division, however this proved to be the stopping grounds of the mediocre AAA teams that were looking for hardware that they failed to capture during the winter in their proper leagues/division. It was really good to be able to take these teams out, sure, I got lit up from time to time, but that's why I play. Highlight of playing with the team was the King of the Ring Championship in 2023... outshot 49 to 13 we managed to win over a team that was expecting to clean up. Going into the 2nd season some players didn't return, they had to frequently pull players from other/ lower level teams just to have enough players to field a team... while other GBO teams started to prosper the 2010 group was on a downward spiral. The last games of the season 3 kids showed and they rest were tossed in from the 2012 group that just came off the ice and kids from other random teams that we could talk into playing. These games never ended well, with nothing to lose, players were taking to fighting, which is not what summer hockey is supposed to be about. I'm there to have fun, it's just a game. 2025, I went for tryouts and made the team again, there were even fewer players after the weak showing the season before. We tried to play one tournament early in the season but there were far too many under-agers and kids from HL that had never played contact before... the first game was ugly but we managed to live and only a few kids were kicked out for fighting... the second game was no doubt a record maker, but not in a good way... the standard 45-50 minute game took a staggering 2 and a half hours with the 3rd period running straight time with no over time. How you ask? We will exercise some external locus here (I learned that from Coach Keeks) The teams were lopsided, the ref couldn't control the play, numberous fights broke out, they had tossed kids out of the tournament and then they started running the net... our D (at least a foot and a half shorter than the attacters) would just get out of the way when they came at our net, the players that were supposed to be at least slowing the opposition down were just not there, there was no punishment for attacking the goalie, the refs couldn't control it, the D wasn't able to keep them at bay AND they made it very clear this was how the game was going to continue. So, after being removed from the ice after the final straw, they went looking for another goalie to finish the game, I think the 2012 goalie filled in, there wasn't many kids left on either side and we managed to take out most of the goalie chargers so... the sub survived but the team didn't. So I'm claiming self-defense, only fight in more than 1000 games, it's not me. And then the 2010s disapeared from the regular Owls lineup, the team was scrapped for the season. Better to not play than put in a team that's likely to get hurt playing the level of hockey that is happening in the summer CCT tournaments. It was fun while it lasted... but it looks like they are going to focus more on getting the younger kids out playing hockey and cut loose the older teams.

Cambridge Turbos U16B Ringette #1
Filling in for the Turbos goalie in the Barrie and District Ringette Tournament, Lawson made a lasting impression on the team and made some new friends. Game one he stepped out on the ice and the team faced off against the home team... their goalie was also a boy... a good 6' 3", he filled a lot of the net... other teams also had their share of boys on the team, so at no point did we have the unfair boy advantage. Lawson only let in 5 goals all weekend and the team only score 5 goals to get them into the finals. So it was a very close event. In the end the Turbos Team took the Championship with a 4 to 1 win in the finals.
2023
Kirkland Lake Soccer U14 Team Blue #76
This season the team started out slow but as the year progressed they turned out to be the dominant force in the league. Finshed first in year end tournament.
In Northern Ontario the ringette organizations take the best players from all the associations and train them to play at an elite level, from here they play scrimage games and tournaments at the highest level in Ringette, AAA doesn't start until u18. So I made the team and the other players are very good. They still all find it hard to score on me, my days are number. Near the end of the season (we had been doing pretty good, our u14AA regional team could even beat the u16AA team), they got us a scrimmage game with the Soo Open Team (which is where you play when you age out of the u18 team, so 18 and older)... It was supposed to teach us how to be good sports about losing. Ya, I can already do that. I posted a shutout the first game and the rest of the team rallied and put 4 in their net... but after a bad nights sleep and them making some phone calls to recruit a few more players to try and shut us down, we beat them again on day 2... I say, they did put up more of a fight, I think some of them might have played on the university team. Over the summer the team played in a few tournaments but they discriminate against boys so I wasn't allowed to play. The following season, I tried out for the u16AA team and was the only goalie eligible to make the team so I guess I made the team by default... it seems they had another team that played out of Sudbury and the players joined that team rather than the Regional team, no one told us that was the plan, the Regional team for 24/25 now doesn't have enough players to form a team so I'm left on a team with no players, and no coaches, and no boys allowed. Ringette is fine to let boys play at the younger levels, but once you hit u14, they would rather not have you around. 2025 update: they've seen me coming and changed the rules to exclude boys from the AAA u18 team which I had plans to tryout for... now they offer a second AAA group for boys only, BUT we need to come up with enough AAA caliber boys to make a league, not a team... So, it looks like they've won and no boys allowed... it's fine when they need you to make a team when you are younger, but they will kick the boys to the curb when they are done with you. Kind of a shitty way to treat people.
2023-24
Timmins Majors u15 AAA #1
So this went almost as ugly as the rest of the Timmins Hockey under HC... The 2023 season u15 Majors AAA team held tryout and I'm told how well I did by the coach and a number of other people, according to them I should be on the team full time However because I'm a 2010 and the other 2 goalies they are considering are 2009, I can still play a year with the AA u14 team and they can't... the u14AA team has no other 2010 goalie if I leave... So I'm placed on the AAA team as an AP, I go to a few of their practices when the AAA coach finds out how poorly things are going for us on the AA team BUT it seems at the practices they have no goalie coach. How can you run a AAA with no goalie coach? I'm invited to a few games and sit on the bench, the kids who paid to play get the ice time, that's normal, but it still leaves me without a proper team this season. Good head coach, I really like him but something was definately rotten in the state of Timmins as far as hockey goes. It sucks to be held back because there is no one to replace you.
We got the phone call one night, I hear you have a goalie, would he like to play ringette for us, we have a tournament in a week... so we ordered a ringette glove from BC (no one else had any) and it arrived next day shipping 5 days later... picked it up from the post office on the way to that tournament. Didn't do half bad, just keep the round thing out of the net. That was a long time ago when it didn't matter if you were a boy. Many battles have been fought over the issue, mostly the teams that were used to beating I.F. and couldn't any more... we've had Timmins try to force their made up rules on us, they've protested and not shown up for scheduled games, held special board meetings to try to stop Lawson from playing... it's been a battle... he's not better because he's a boy, he's better because he spends 10x as much time as the rest of you practicing and being on the ice. As of 2025 we may rejoin the team, but realistically they are never going to let boys play anything but bottom level ringette, which make no sense at all, you take AA and AAA boys and make them play on the HL or B team, and they totally destroy the game. So when you see something like this, don't point at the evil boys. It's not their fault, they system is just trying to burn them off and make them not come back. It's easier than saying no boys allowed and the getting sued.
Past Teams/Associations: 2021-2024 / Timmins North Stars AA #32
There is a reason this team keeps losing goalies. It deserves a section on the site all of it's own. This is why I don't play hockey anymore with any Hockey Canada association. More to follow
Past Teams/Associations: 2015-2021 Iroquios Falls Eskimo #1
Spent a good deal of time here playing hockey until COVID hit. The limited number of teams we could play left for some lopsided games. In that last year our Rep team played the team one age older than us in that town and the one we lived in... occationally we would play the teams one age group lower and my team would sell me to the younger team to make things more fair. I never lost a game that year, the Matheson team only ever scored on me once all season. Lots of shots, but not the calibur I should be seeing.
